i liked U2 until Joshua Tree. Hated that album and everything after it...

Alright, there are a couple "ok" songs on the album, but most of it is indistinguishable mush.

I"m pretty surprise of how many U2 hater I see here.

I'm not shy to say I personnaly think U2 is an important part of music history. I liked them a lot up until "Achtung Baby" lost total confidence in them with the last album (all that you can leave behind) wich was really really bad except for 3 songs. But "Vertigo" the first official single for the new release sounds mighty great to me.

Just when you think U2 couldn't get any more pretentious, they send advanced copies of their new album to every rock station so that they can play one new song an hour for the rest of the week. Granted, the break from hearing the same tired Rush, AC/DC, and Nirvana "classics" is certainly welcome, and the new stuff ain't bad, but who else would have the arrogance to put an album of singles on the air? Audacious as that is, it seems enough of their lyrics must have the magical power to heal the world and restore peace, love, and tree-hugging to the masses, because the motivation can't possibly be money...

I'm devolving.
